I disagree with your conclusions in your editorial regarding the new flood maps ["Flood maps do hold water," Opinion, Feb. 17].

The new flood maps may hold water, but asking or requiring homeowners to go from paying $330 to $1,700 per year or more is simply not justified.

An increase in cost may be justified, but not this severe and not this sudden.

Had medical, energy or food costs risen this dramatically, it would have triggered a congressional investigation.

Did anyone in the Federal Emergency Management Agency consider the severe financial impact this would have on homeowners during this terrible recession, to say nothing of the impact on the housing market on Long Island?

Who needs or wants to buy a home on Long Island if they have to spend an enormous amount on flood insurance, in addition to high property taxes? I'm sorry that your editorial didn't give any support or consideration to us homeowners.
