Florida? the Hamptons? How about tropical Woodbury?

The business of nightlife on Long Island is finally beginning to make a comeback after the recession. The latest entry in the category is Liquid, a South Beach-style spot that is to open May 26 at the Woodbury Country Club.
Club owner Robert Passavia said Liquid will be open one night a week -- Wednesdays-- for 17 weeks. He had real palm trees flown up from Florida to create the scene he wanted next to his club's swimming pool.
"Liquid will be an open-air lounge," Passavia said. "If you can't be in the Hamptons [or Florida] midweek, you want to be somewhere outside. The restaurants are trying to pull this off, but they can't create the tropical feel." The country club is a catering hall, and Passavia has carved out some space for the club.
Liquid will feature cabanas, soft music, bars and tents.
Passavia said he is looking to attract the 25-to-60 crowd, in other words "no kids," he added.
"There's going to be networking going on" for the business crowd, Passavia said. Will he be doing this next spring/summer as well?
"Let's see if this works," Passavia said.
'Success is zero deaths on the roadway' Newsday reporters spent this year examining the risks on Long Island's roads, where traffic crashes over a decade killed more than 2,100 people and seriously injured more than 16,000. This documentary is a result of that newsroom-wide effort.
