Flower Hill becomes backdrop for film, TV

Watch out for paparazzi in the Village of Flower Hill.
The village of about 5,000 residents surrounded by Roslyn, Manhasset and Port Washington has recently been the scene of several television and movie shoots.
Village Administrator Ronnie Shatzkamer jokingly calls the area Flower Hill Hollywood East.
“I think casting directors want a certain look — they come to us to find it,” she said.
During the same week recently, the HBO series “Boardwalk Empire” was filming at the Cow Neck Historical Society building on Port Washington Boulevard, and a David Chase (creator of “The Sopranos”) film featuring James Gandolfini was being shot at a house off Bonnie Heights Road.
HBO’s recent movie “Too Big to Fail,” about the economic crisis and Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson’s maneuvering, was also shot in the village. And in the winter, truTV shot a show about tag sales in the village, Shatzkamer said.
The village requires film crews to get a permit, as well as pay a fee of $1,000 for the first day and $1,500 each succeeding day. Proceeds go into the village’s general fund.
