Floyd clinches playoff berth

Floyd clinched a playoff berth today with a 5-4 win over Sachem East and that puts 16 teams in for Suffolk Class AA. The double-elimination tournament begins Monday and the matchups and seeds won't be announced until that morning.

Lucas Fusco hit a sacrifice fly to score Nick Russo in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Floyd (10-8) a 5-4 lead in League I. Mark Tucker's single scored Jonathan Martinez in the fifth tied the score at 4 for Floyd. Anthony Mondi hit a homer to bring Floyd within 4-3 in the fourth. Fusco's two-run double in the second pulled Floyd within 3-2. Brandon Buckman threw a complete game and struck out nine in the win.
