Flute concerts and cabaret on Long Island
WHAT The Long Island Flute Club gears up for its annual festival with an ensemble concert featuring a 16-piece professional flute choir. Conducted by Debra Schild, the choir includes all members of the flute family - from the diminutive piccolo to the large bass flute. The program ranges from The Variations on a Theme by Haydn by Brahms to an arrangement by Ray Osnato of Massapequa. The concert is a tuneup of sorts for next weekend's daylong festival of master classes, exhibits, flute ensembles and a performance by the West Point flutists Diana Powers and Torin Olsen.

WHAT Long Island Cabaret Theatre presents what it bills as "The Ultimate Cabaret Show." Actually, it's two shows, with 35 singers and dancers in a costumed program with musical direction by Sid Cherry. Snacks and BYOB setups follow, which may encourage you to stick around for dancing till 1 a.m. "The Usual Suspects," featuring Brian Enoch, plays tomorrow night and "Where's Ringo?" featuring Jen Grabowski, next Saturday.
