Food bank service center forced to move

The Nassau Service Center of Long Island Cares Inc., the Hauppauge-based food bank, has relocated to 84 Pine St. in the Village of Freeport, around the corner from its original home at 9 W. Sunrise Hwy.
Robin S. Amato, the group’s director of development and communications, said the center was forced to relocate because of physical problems in the Sunrise Highway facility. She did not describe those problems.
Amato said that despite the new facility’s relative lack of space, the center was carrying on. “Although it’s a little smaller it is working out for us just fine,” she said in an email.
The center, which provides emergency food and support services to Nassau residents in need, relocated to Pine Street last month, according to the organization. The center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
