Former North Hempstead town supervisor Jon Kaiman, in a short letter to the town clerk’s office, officially resigned Monday from the position he has held since 2004.

Before his resignation, which took place shortly after noon, Kaiman, 51, submitted a draft 2014 budget to Deputy Supervisor Christopher Senior.

Senior automatically became nonvoting acting supervisor after Kaiman’s resignation, although the town board has the option to appoint someone. The board meets next on Oct. 1.

Kaiman began his new role Monday as special adviser for Long Island Storm Recovery, a new $150,000-a-year position to which he was appointed by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo in July. The governor also moved last week to appoint the former town supervisor head of the Nassau Interim Finance Authority.
