A Brookhaven citizens group will host a June 2 public forum with elected officials about air quality concerns related to the town’s Yaphank landfill.

Scheduled participants include Assemb. Dean Murray (R-East Patchogue), County Legis. Kate Browning (WF-Shirley), town Supervisor Mark Lesko, council members Connie Kepert and Daniel Panico, and state Department of Environmental Conservation and county Department of Health officials.

The Brookhaven Community Coalition, which is hosting the forum, said residents are also welcome to ask questions about other environmental concerns.

The citizens group formed to lobby the town to stop accepting sludge at its Yaphank landfill. The state took away Brookhaven’s permit to accept sludge in March after dozens of students and teachers at a nearby intermediate school reported nausea from foul odors coming from the dump.

The forum is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Bellport High School, 205 Beaver Dam Rd.
