Forum set on Western Bays water quality
Environmentalists, scientists, and government officials will convene Wednesday for a forum about ongoing research in the Western Bays region of the South Shore. Western Bays, which has been on a state list of water bodies impaired by pathogens since 1998, has suffered from declining water quality.
At the forum, speakers will review new research projects and attempts to fund a cleanup.
Adrienne Esposito, executive director of Citizens Campaign for the Environment, a nonprofit that is holding the event, said she was hoping to “expedite” the process for upgrading the Bay Park Sewage Treatment Plant.
“The Western Bays are dying, and the goal is to bring them back to life,” Esposito said.
The forum, which is free and open to the public, will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Nassau County Legislative Chambers, 1550 Franklin Ave., in Mineola.
