Frank Reich confident in Klubnik, Jets QB room
Frank Reich knows the importance of having a good backup quarterback, maybe better than anyone.
As the Bills’ QB2, Reich led the greatest playoff comeback in NFL history in 1993. He also was the Eagles’ offensive coordinator when they won Super Bowl LII and backup Nick Foles was MVP.
Reich doesn’t seem concerned that rookie Cade Klubnik is Geno Smith’s backup, though. It’s possible that the Jets bring in a veteran, but it’s Klubnik’s job right now. Reich has been impressed with Klubnik’s development and feels they have enough – players and coaches – to make the situation work.
“We've got [quarterbacks coach] Bill Musgrave in that room, I'm in that room, so Geno has some seasoned quarterbacks in the room with him,” Reich said. “Whatever decision's going to be made will be made and that'll be made by [Aaron Glenn] and [Darren Mougey]. But Cade has done well. He's done well and it's a really good dynamic in that room.”
This was a major offensive coaching upgrade Aaron Glenn made in the offseason, replacing Tanner Engstrand and Charles London with Reich and Musgrave. Both played in the NFL, were offensive coordinators and quarterbacks coaches previously and in Reich’s case a head coach multiple times.
