Frank Reich is calling plays from upstairs for the first time in his career.
The Jets' offensive coordinator, who held the same position with the Chargers and Eagles, mentioned to head coach Aaron Glenn that he wanted to try calling a game from up in the box in the preseason. Reich now plans to do it in the regular season.
“I actually really like it. It’s been good,” Reich said. “I feel that our coaches on the sideline are doing a great job. You lose a little bit, but the things that I feel like I gain up there and the way I can see it, I’ve liked it.”
Reich said he can see everything better and it allows for a little more organization.
“Between series, just gathering my thoughts, clearly talking to everybody, looking at the call sheet,” Reich said. “You can do it from downstairs, but it's just all laid out right in front of you. So I don't know, it just felt good.”
