Fifty Adelphi University fraternity brothers from Kappa Sigma will fast for 24 hours preceding the kickoff of Super Bowl XLV to put a light on the issue of hunger.

This is the fifth year of Kappa Sigma’s Super Hungerfest, and the first time the fraternity is partnering with Island Harvest.

During the fast the brothers will go door-to-door in the Garden City area collecting non-perishable items, which will be donated to Island Harvest. In addition, they’re welcoming the public to attend a screening of the hunger-related documentary “Silent Killers” Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Adelphi Alumni House, 154 Cambridge Ave., Garden City. The film will be preceded at 6:15 with a talk by Island Harvest representative Stewart Cohen, and a discussion period will follow the documentary.

The entry fee is $1 or a non-perishable food item. For more information on the documentary, or if you’re in the Garden City area and interested in donating food, contact Harry Loizides at 631-697-2589 or charalambosloizides@mail.adelphi.edu.
