Frayler leads Connetquot rally over W. Islip
Casey Shannon drove in Lizzie Frayler with a single in the bottom of the eighth inning Monday as Connetquot overcame a seven-run deficit to edge West Islip, 16-15, in Suffolk League II softball.
Trailing 14-7 in the bottom of the seventh, Frayler and Angela Schuler each had two-run hits as Connetquot scored seven in the inning to tie the score at 14. Frayler went 5-for-5 with three RBIs and four runs. Frayler's third RBI in the bottom of the eighth tied the score at 15.
Lindenhurst 16, Sachem East 3: Stephanie Kirgan struck out three in a six-inning one-hitter for Lindenhurst in League II. Kirgan lost her bid for a no-hitter on a single in the fifth. Maggie Byrnes had a three-run homer and Alexis DeClerk added a solo shot. Islip 4, Kings Park 3: Vanessa Juengerkes' sacrifice fly off an attempted intentional walk scored Kathleen Burns in the bottom of the eighth in League V. Faith Laudano went 3-for-3 with five stolen bases and Erica Colangelo scored the tying run in the seventh.
Calhoun 10, Hicksville 9: Allison Abbene's three-run double in the bottom of the seventh won it for Calhoun (Conference AA-II), which entered the inning trailing 9-4. Lauren Savarese hit a three-run homer earlier in the inning to cut the deficit to 9-7. BASEBALL
Rocky Point 4, Miller Place 3: Pinch runner Brendan Craig scored on Trevor Mercier's suicide squeeze in the bottom of the seventh in League VI. Tyler Piccolo struck out eight and allowed one run in six innings.
Harborfields 7, Islip 0: Ken Adair struck out seven in a four-hitter and Dylan Piscitelli hit a three-run homer in League VI. Travis George had three hits and two runs and Matt Lucarelli had two hits and two RBIs.
Mattituck 6, Center Moriches 5: Nick Bieber's RBI single in the top of the fourth broke a tie at 2 for Mattituck in League VIII. Marcos Perivolas struck out five in six innings and gave up two earned runs and John Schultz went 2-for-2 with two runs.
Carey 3, Mepham 2: Andrew Ris drove in Chris Dente with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth for Carey in Conference AA-III. Steven Marino tied the game at 2 with a sacrifice fly earlier in the inning. Harry Smith struck out 10, giving up nine hits in the win.
Oyster Bay 9, Locust Valley 0: Joe Siringo struck out 12, walked three and gave up one hit in six innings in Conference BC. Will Treiber went 3-for-4 with four RBIs.BOYS LACROSSE
Clarke 15, Island Trees 3: Anthony Gomes had three goals and six assists for a career-high nine points in Conference IV. GIRLS LACROSSE
Harborfields 13, Locust Valley 7: Sarah Crowley had four goals and two assists and Dina Rucco came off the bench to score three goals to lead Harborfields in non-league.
BOYS TRACK
Angel hurls to first. Bay Shore's Angel Rosario took first in the discus with a throw of 139 feet, 5 inches and won the shot put (44-6 1/2) at the Derrick Adkins Classic. Teammates Omari Buckmire (20-3) and Jamari Lawrence (19-6) took first and second in the long jump.
