Free admission to Sagamore Hill on Tuesday

The usual $5 mansion tour fee at Sagamore Hill National Historic Site will be waived Tuesday to mark the first day of summer and the longest day of the year.

There will be no charge to visit President Theodore Roosevelt’s home or any of the other 393 units of the National Park Service under a directive from Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar.

Visitors will still need a ticket to tour Roosevelt’s mansion. They are available only on the day of the tour and are handed out on a first-come-first-served basis, starting at 9 a.m., at the Visitor Center. Tours are conducted every hour on the hour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Each tour is limited to 14 people.

The site is now on summer schedule and is open seven days a week. There is no charge for the grounds or to visit the Theodore Roosevelt Museum at Old Orchard, but the house tour is usually $5.
