Free advice in Glen Cove for those facing foreclosure

Foreclosure prevention specialists, through a state Financial Services Department program, will be available Thursday to advise Glen Cove area homeowners seeking information on the foreclosure process, state officials said Tuesday.

The department’s mobile command center will be stationed at Glen Cove Public Library, 4 Glen Cove Ave., between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., to “provide as much help as possible to financially-troubled homeowners,” Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said in a statement Tuesday.

“The objective is to provide direct help to homeowners and get the word out to others that it’s important to ask for help as quickly as possible.”

State Sen. Carl Marcellino (R-Syosset) in a statement also advised homeowners to act sooner than later.

“I urge residents not to wait until the bank is at your door,” he said.

Officials said homeowners also can find information at 800-269-0990 or at dfs.ny.gov.

The foreclosure relief program is aimed at sites with high foreclosure rates.

In the Glen Cove ZIP code, one of out every 1,179 housing units received a foreclosure filing in August 2012, according to the most recent data by realtytrac.com.
