The Nassau County Office of Emergency Management is hosting the next Community Emergency Response Team basic training in Levittown.

The CERT program educates people about disaster preparedness and trains them in basic disaster response and recovery skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.

There are more than 1,200 county residents who are CERT team members, officials said.

The free training starts Wednesday and ends Dec. 14. The three-hour course will be held once a week for six Wednesday nights from 7 to 10 p.m.

The training will be at Island Trees Memorial Middle School, 45 South Wantagh Ave.
