The ABBA Leadership Center will hold its fifth annual pre-Mother’s Day celebration Saturday to honor single mothers in and around Hempstead Village.
The nonprofit, faith-based organization in Hempstead will host the event, in partnership with community and faith-based organizations and local businesses, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Judea United Baptist Church, located at 83 Greenwich St. in Hempstead. The group is expecting about 400 mothers, it said.
Each mother will be treated to a free dinner, flowers, a gift and a bag of groceries to help prepare a family meal. The celebration will also include live gospel music and poetry performances. Representatives from health and human service agencies will be at information tables to provide resources to low-income mothers and their families.
Interested single mothers must register by noon Friday. For more information, call 516-398-7484 or 516-493-9840.
