Hempstead Village officials will distribute groceries and canned goods for Thanksgiving to local families Tuesday and Wednesday.
Three tractor-trailers of food were donated by National Grid as part of its Hurricane Sandy relief efforts, village officials said. Among the food items are turkeys, chickens, hams, pork chops, pies, cookies and water bottles.
The donations will be handed out at Kennedy Memorial Park, 335 Greenwich St., Tuesday until 5 p.m. and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. or until supplies are gone.
“In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, many families who were already struggling have found it that much harder to put food on the table for the holidays,” Mayor Wayne J. Hall Sr. said in statement. “I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to National Grid for their generous donation to the many Hempstead Village residents who are in need this Thanksgiving.”
