Free prostate screenings scheduled in Babylon Town
Free prostate screenings will take place at three locations in Babylon Town.
The screenings are being sponsored by Stony Brook Medicine in conjunction with state Assemb. Robert Sweeney (D-Lindenhurst) and Suffolk County Legis. DuWayne Gregory (D-Amityville).
Prostate cancer screenings are recommended annually for men 40 and older, according to the American Urological Association. According to Stony Brook Medicine, those with a family history of prostate cancer and African-Americans are at higher risk for the disease. The risk also increases with age.
According to the National Cancer Institute, 15 percent of men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetimes.
The free screenings will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the following locations: Tri-Community Health Center in Amityville on Monday; Martin Luther King Jr. Health Center in Wyandanch on Nov. 25; and the Copiague Fire Department in Copiague on Dec. 9.
