Free rabies clinic at N. Hempstead shelter
North Hempstead Town and the Nassau County Health Department will host a free rabies vaccination clinic next month for cats and dogs.
The clinic will be from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 7, at the North Hempstead Animal Shelter, 75 Marino Ave., in Port Washington.
Rabies is an acute viral disease of the nervous system and is transmitted by the bite of a rabid animal or when saliva from an infected animal comes into contact with a cut or scratched skin.
State law requires rabies vaccinations for all dogs, cats and ferrets kept as pets.
