The Town of Oyster Bay has scheduled a free rabies vaccination clinic for dogs, cats and ferrets on Saturday.

The clinic will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Town Animal Shelter at 150 Miller Place in Syosset. It will be done with assistance from the Long Island Veterinary Medical Association.

By law, all dogs in Nassau County must be licensed and inoculated against rabies. While the county law does not extend to cats or ferrets, state law does require that they be inoculated against rabies, according to the town. Dogs, cats and ferrets older than 4 months should receive their first two inoculations one year apart and boosters every three years thereafter.

For the clinic, dogs must be on leashes, and cats and ferrets must be in enclosed carriers. No reservations are necessary.
