The Nassau County Firefighters Museum and Education Center will give away smoke detectors this weekend to remind Long Islanders to change their clocks and their smoke and carbon monoxide detector batteries while switching to Daylight Saving Time on Sunday.

The museum is aiming to give away the detectors -- to those who pay for museum admission -- to remind residents of the fire safety measure. The giveaway will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The museum is on Charles Lindbergh Boulevard on Museum Row in East Garden City.

Smoke detectors, donated by Kidde, are limited to one per family. Tickets are $5 for adults and $4 for children, organizers said.

The museum urges all residents to check the smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors in their homes to make sure they are properly installed and have a functioning battery. Daylight Saving Time begins Sunday at 2 a.m., when clocks should be moved forward by one hour.

For more information, call the museum at 516-572-4177 or visit www.ncfiremuseum.org.
