State Sen. Kemp Hannon (R-Garden City) will host a free seminar on legal and financial protections for children with special needs, Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Garden City Middle School, 98 Cherry Valley Ave. in Garden City.
Attorney Andrew Cohen and financial adviser Mitch Weisbrot will focus on the legal and financial preparations needed to safeguard assets and benefits for special-needs children.
Topics to be discussed include government benefits, how to accumulate and preserve assets without disqualifying eligibility for benefits, establishing guardianship, estate planning, wills and special-needs trusts.
“The two speakers are fathers of children with disabilities, and their experiences and expertise will be invaluable to anyone who has any questions or concerns about best planning for the future needs of their disabled children,” Hannon said in a statement.
