The Hempstead Town Animal Shelter will waive all pet adoption fees totaling about $100 in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day on Saturday.

The second annual “Lucky You, Lucky Me” event will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the shelter, 3320 Beltagh Ave., Wantagh. All adopted animals will receive free rabies vaccinations and microchipping, as well as free spaying and neutering. Also, cats will be tested for feline aids/leukemia, town officials said.

“We encourage town residents to visit the Animal Shelter and find their ‘pot of gold,’ a cuddly cat or dog to call their own,” shelter director Cynthia Iacopella said in a statement.

There will be a “St. Pitties Parade” just outside the shelter (weather permitting) at 1 p.m. to highlight the animals up for adoption. Residents adopting a pet can have their photos taken for free with their new pal and a St. Patrick’s Day leprechaun, officials said.

There will also be raffles and baked goods for sale, with proceeds benefiting the Tails of Hope Fund, an organization helping to fund medical surgeries for dogs and cats.

Interested adopters can view the shelter’s pets by visiting toh.li/animal-shelter. For more information, call the shelter at 516-785-5220.
