Freeman hits two homers as Braves top Brewers
Freddie Freeman, hitting .111 in 10 previous games at the Brewers' ballpark, hit a pair of solo home runs, and Jason Heyward added a two-run shot to back a solid outing by Alex Wood, powering the Atlanta Braves to a 5-2 victory over host Milwaukee last night.
Wood (1-0) settled down after allowing a home run to Carlos Gomez on his first pitch. The lefthander allowed one run on five hits in seven innings. Craig Kimbrel struck out the side in the ninth for the save.
Dodgers 3, Padres 2: Yasiel Puig hit a 410-foot drive for a two-run homer in the first inning in San Diego and Zack Greinke won his season debut.
Dodgers manager Don Mattingly says NL Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw probably won't be ready to come off the disabled list when he's eligible April 14.
Diamondbacks 5, Giants 4: A.J. Pollock broke out of an 0-for-13 start with three hits, scoring twice and driving in a run in Phoenix. Wade Miley (1-1) gave up four runs in the first inning, including a three-run homer by Brandon Belt, then Miley blanked the Giants for the next six, retiring 15 in a row in one stretch.
Marlins 4, Rockies 3: Nathan Eovaldi pitched six innings and host Miami made the most of five hits to beat Colorado for the second night in a row.
Blue Jays 4, Rays 2: Drew Hutchison won his first start in almost two years and Adam Lind hit a three-run homer in the first inning in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Mariners 8, Angels 3: Brad Miller hit two home runs, driving in three runs, and Justin Smoak hit a three-run double in Anaheim.
Rangers 3, Phillies 2: Adrian Beltre singled home Shin-Soo Choo in the ninth inning, and host Texas saved a run on a successful replay challenge.
