Freeport will receive a $25,000 state grant to help pay for video surveillance equipment for public parks in the village.

The village board voted to accept the grant, via the state Division of Criminal Justice Services, during a Monday night meeting. The grant provides money “for the purchase and installation of a video surveillance system in the public parks within” the village, according to documents filed at village hall.

The village is researching the total cost of the surveillance project, said trustee Robert Kennedy. The $25,000 grant probably will not cover the entire project, he said.

The village is unlikely to place equipment in every park in the village, Kennedy said.

“We’re not sure about the package price,” he said.

State Sen. Charles Fuschillo Jr. (R-Merrick) secured the grant, village officials said.
