The other foot dropped for poor Nicky Galasso.

A Syracuse University spokesman confirmed to Newsday that Galasso suffered a season-ending “lower-body” injury. However, according to Inside Lacrosse, the former West Islip star and all-time leading scorer in Long Island history, who had transferred from North Carolina to Syracuse, broke his right foot and the injury requires immediate surgery.

Galasso, a junior, had broken his left foot last season while at North Carolina, reducing him to a limited role on special teams. A desire to regain an expanded role on offense – he was the ACC Freshman of the Year for the Tar Heels – led to his transfer to Syracuse after the fall semester.

This latest injury is not only a blow to Galasso, but also to Syracuse, which lacks an elite quarterback to run its offense. Galasso’s playmaking skills were expected to launch the Orange back into the national title picture.

According to the Syracuse spokesman, if Galasso applies for and is granted a medical redshirt bv the NCAA for 2013, he will retain two years of college eligibility.

Galasso did not return calls to Newsday for comment.
