Long-stick defenseman Brian Fischer scored unassisted with 8:58 left in the fourth quarter to give Garden City a one-goal lead and Alex Castronovo made a save with 1:22 remaining to help the Trojans to a 5-4 win over Niskayuna on Thursday afternoon in a state Class B boys lacrosse semifinal at Hofstra’s Shuart Stadium.

Fischer ran to the goal to score off a Connor Horl faceoff win for what proved to be the game-winner.

Garden City (18-3) plays Jamesville-DeWitt (21-0) in the state Class B final at 11 a.m. Saturday at Stony Brook’s LaValle Stadium. The Trojans last won a state title in 2000. Niskayuna from Section II finishes 17-5.

Tom Gordon scored two straight goals less than a minute apart, both on assists from Devin Dwyer, to give Garden City a 3-2 lead with 5:35 left in the third quarter. Matt Montgomery made it 4-2 for the Trojans with 4:22 left in the third before Niskayuna rallied to tie it at 4 with 9:09 left in the fourth.
