The Garden City Park Fire Department is celebrating a century of service with a carnival beginning Thursday and a parade Saturday.

The carnival, which will also feature a fireworks show on Saturday, will be in the parking lot of the Tully Park Aquatic Activity Center in New Hyde Park on Thursday from 6 to 10 p.m., Friday from 6 to 11 p.m., Saturday from 2 to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m.

There will be live music Friday and Saturday nights. The parade Saturday will begin at Park Circle in Garden City Park and end at the aquatic center.

The department was formed in March 1911 with 23 members and a horse-drawn hook-and-ladder and bucket brigade, according to the department. Today it has 118 members and two stations, said Chief William Rudnick.
