VOTING

7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday at Garden City High School.

THE BUDGET

The district is proposing a 2010-11 school budget of $98,275,256, 3.21 percent more than the current $95,215,587. The proposed tax levy of $88,862,279 is 4.52 percent higher than the current $85,022,296.

Officials said they could not estimate the effect on taxes for the average home until they get more data from the county assessor to make the calculation.

The proposed budget includes an unspecified amount of money for teacher salaries, subject to negotiations. The teacher contract expires at the end of this year.

The proposed budget would cut three high school elective teacher jobs and one sixth-grade teacher, due to a slight enrollment decline. One teaching job would be added because of special-education enrollment growth. Also cut would be 1.2 gifted-program jobs, a science specialist at the elementary level, a part-time technology staff developer, one clerical worker and two paraprofessionals.

A referendum to permit continuous registration of voters will also be on the ballot.
