Watch your mouth, Giants fans
Turns out Giants fans don’t just wear blue. They talk blue, too.
An analysis by ActionNetwork.com of over 2.5 million comments from the subreddits of all 32 NFL teams found that Giants fans were “the most foul-mouthed” in the league. The study said 14.98% of their comments contained curse words, tops among all fanbases. A close second were, surprisingly enough, fans of the Colts. They had swear words in 14.88% of their posts.
Daniel Jones seems to be the common denominator here.
Third place? Browns fans at 14.72%. That makes sense.
Jets fans were fifth with 14.34%.
That’s surprising considering that the Jets placed second when the study looked at negative tone and not just the lurid language. Over one quarter of their comments — 25.76% — had a “negative tone.” Only Colts fans (26.32%) were more negative. In other words, Jets fans complain and gripe a lot, they just tend to do so in more of a PG-rated way.
The Giants ranked 12th in most negative comments, right between two perennial playoff contenders, the Lions and Eagles.
Oh, and just so you don’t think it’s a New York thing to talk (or type) in a NSFW way, the most polite fans in the league belong to the Buffalo Bills. Only 10.70% of their comments needed bleeping out. The Rams and Packers (10.98%) tied for the second-most civil.
Something all 32 teams had in common was their vocabulary. Every fan base had the same word among their most common curses. It starts with an S.
One more interesting tidbit: Fans of the Cardinals cussed in 14.48% of their comments, fourth-most in the league, yet 51.11% of their remarks carried a “positive tone” which is second-best and only behind the fans of the Buccaneers (51.71%). Apparently there is a lot to be happy about — and curse about — in Arizona these days. Who knew?
