NBC's Mike Tomlin feeling good about John Harbaugh's Giants

Few coaches know John Harbaugh's teams better than Mike Tomlin. They met 44 times including the playoffs, with Tomlin's Steelers holding a 25-19 advantage over Harbaugh's Ravens.

So with Tomlin joining NBC's Football Night in America crew, he was a perfect mind to pick about his expectations on how Harbaugh will improve the Giants ahead of the team's Sunday Night Football opener against the Cowboys.

"He has a definitive style for how he engineers victory, and I just think that’s a major component of winning and winning consistently," Tomlin said on a conference call Thursday. "He’s a good, established coach. I think the Giants are a really good organization. They’ve had bad teams, but I think it’s a good organization.

"So I think that the fix there is going to be quicker than maybe outsiders might realize. I’m not putting them in the Super Bowl, but I certainly expect those guys to be competitive and be competitive almost instantly. I just know that about Harbs. His training camps and how he develops a team has been well documented."

Tomlin added the Giants will have a higher floor than in year's past because of what Harbaugh brings. It'll be easier to enjoy for him to watch without game-planning for a Harbaugh team.

But count Tomlin as someone who thinks a different Giants team will emerge this season.

"I’m not going to be shocked when they show up in that stadium and they play with a really high floor," Tomlin said. "They’re solid in all areas. They don’t beat themselves. They won’t be highly penalized, et cetera, et cetera. I just have that level of feeling about Harbs and what he’s capable of delivering."
