Sand spreaders were preparing for the snow Friday afternoon in Huntington, spreading sand along New York Avenue.

Snow plows and heavy equipment were stationed at the Walt Whitman Shops, waiting for the heavy snow to arrive.

Trains were running on time at the Huntington LIRR Station, where Adam Tibbets, 61, of Bellmore, left work to catch a train to Hicksville.

"I left work early because I didn't want my wife driving to pick me up in the snow," Tibbets said.

He said it would be significant if Huntington got the worst-case scenario of nearly 10 inches, but he was less concerned in Nassau where the forecast was about 6 inches.

"It seems like they always overestimate," Tibbets said. "It's not so bad, but it's a pain to clean up."
