Nearly 100 people watched as two men fought to the death on the back lawn of the Chelsea House in East Norwich Saturday.

Well, sort of.

It was part of the storyline that the folks from LI-based Medieval Scenarios Recreations Inc. (MSR) put together for its first Renaissance Faire at the Muttontown Nature Preserve.

This was the first time the 30-year-old nonprofit organization held a festival at the East Norwich preserve, and the first time the group held a festival representing the 17th century. It typically provides scenarios for the 15th and 16th centuries, according to Mary Redler of MSR.

“We have been hammering this plan out for three years now,” Redler said. “It gives us an opportunity to meet new people, when we hold these fairs.”

In one scenario, the three (actually four) musketeers fought and killed several of Cardinal Richelieu’s knights to protect France’s King Louis and his wife, Anne of Austria, from the loss of their thrones.

Elizabeth Sandonato of Westbury brought her 3-year-old son, Roman, out to enjoy the day and learn to shoot a bow and arrow.

“We discussed swords, and how there’s going to be some sword fights. He was intrigued by that,” she said. “It’s a nice family festival, something great to do when it’s nice out.”

Crowds can continue to come out Sunday, and next Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
