There are five undefeated girls basketball teams left on Long Island - Herricks, Mepham, Glenn, North Babylon and Northport - but only the Tigers have not had a player score 20-plus points in a game.

"I always feel like it's easy to stop one kid, so if you have five, seven or nine girls who can score and contribute, it makes us a very dangerous team," Northport coach Rich Castellano said.

Senior Chrystal Pope has scored a career-high 15 points in two games for Northport (6-0, 2-0 League II) which had 14 of 15 players score in a 63-33 win over Bay Shore on Tuesday. Castellano said having depth will lead to continued success for the Tigers.

"That's only going to make us better," he said. "Kids get quality minutes; they all work at practice to make us better as a team."

The Tigers host Connetquot at 6 p.m. Monday and will look to keep up their stellar defensive play, limiting all but one opponent to 37 points or fewer.

"I see girls score 30 or 20 points but we play them and they don't do that anymore," Castellano said.
