Some big names in Long Island's business, political and legal communities played -- literally -- rock and roll music at the Sea Cliff Yacht Club last night to raise money to support a just-opened center in Garden City for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Long Islanders.

The event, organized by attorney David Mejias, of the Glen Cove-based law firm Mejias Milgrim & Alvarado, featured Resi Cooper, a former Long Island aide to then-U.S. Sen Hillary Rodham Clinton, playing tambourine; Daniel Deegan of the Uniondale law firm Forchelli Curto Deegan, playing guitar, and Kim Kaiman, wife of North Hempstead Town Supervisor Jon Kaiman, on vocals. Mejias said he had met David Kilmnick, chief executive of the advocacy group Long Island GLBT Services Network, and decided to help raise money for the center, which opened Oct. 14.

Kilmnick said the Bay Shore-based LIGLBT hoped to raise about $5,000 at the event.
