Glen Cove, yacht club swap land parcels
The city of Glen Cove and the Hempstead Harbour Club will swap small land parcels in what officials said was a housekeeping measure to streamline property borders.
The city’s public boat ramp now sits on what is yacht club-owned property on Garvies Point Road, while the club occupies land that technically belongs to the city.
“The boat ramp was rebuilt and expanded years ago and proper surveys weren’t done, if any were done at all,” Mayor Ralph Suozzi said.
Though the legal transaction involves deeds, “There’s no monetary exchange here at all,” the mayor said.
The City Council approved the swap — a 411-square-foot parcel with the boat ramp officially becomes the city’s, and a 518-square-foot parcel goes to the club — with a unanimous 7-0 vote at last week’s meeting.
