The primary contest for the Independence Party line for Glen Cove City Council was decided this week by absentee ballots, the Nassau County Board of Elections said yesterday.
The absentee ballot count became a deciding factor when there was a tie for sixth place among two of the seven candidates seeking six slots. Independence Party member Martin Carmody, who is also running on the Democratic line, ended in last place with 57 votes. He had been tied with Efraim Spagnoletti who, along with Charles A. Bozzello Jr., finished with 58 votes in the final count.
With the exception of Linda Darby, a Democrat, the other five candidates on the Independence Party line are registered Republicans. Darby is also running on the Republican line, but not the Democratic line.
The top vote-getter on the Independence line was City Council member Anthony Gallo Jr. with 77 votes, followed by Darby, Pamela Panzenbeck, Kristina Heuser, and Bozzello and Spagnoletti.
