Glen Cove OKs $1M to buy lot for water well

The Glen Cove City Council last week approved the $1 million purchase of a lot on Raynham Road so a public water supply well can be placed there.
On Tuesday, the council authorized Mayor Ralph Suozzi to sign a contract with Frank and Katherine Casale for sale of a 2.1-acre lot at 13 Raynham Rd., which is adjacent to the existing Duck Pond Road pumping station, where two wells are located.
Suozzi said two appraisals on the property showed it was worth about $1.2 million, but the owners agreed to sell at a previously agreed-upon price of $1 million.
Suozzi said the city has not developed a cost estimate yet to drill the well.
The city has five water supply wells, but one is out of service because of contamination issues.
