The Glen Cove City Council on Tuesday night approved a resolution authorizing Mayor Ralph Suozzi to sign an intermunicipal agreement with Long Beach for mutual assistance after a major storm.
The agreement codifies the informal arrangement made between officials of Nassau County’s two cities after superstorm Sandy when Glen Cove personnel and vehicles helped pick up debris in Long Beach.
Suozzi said the city already has similar arrangements with the neighboring towns of Oyster Bay and North Hempstead.
The agreement allows the two cities to “provide services to prevent and combat the effects of ... disasters such as hurricane Sandy.” It stipulates that whichever city sends help to the other “may request reimbursement for all actual costs.”
The agreement must still be approved by the Long Beach City Council, Suozzi said.
