Glen Cove public works supervisor suspended over Sandy overtime

A Glen Cove public works supervisor has been suspended for 30 days without pay, according to the city and his union.

Kevin Monahan was suspended after the city accused him of putting in for overtime pay for cleaning up superstorm Sandy debris in Long Beach on a day he didn’t work, according to a city official.

Monahan was given a hearing date on March 15 as required by Civil Service law, the Glen Cove official said.

CSEA Long Island President Nick LaMorte said, “We will defend Kevin Monahan. Anybody has their day in court. I have not seen the specifics to the charges. We will be denying any wrongdoing on his behalf.”

A man who answered the phone at Monahan’s residence said he would have no comment.

In the weeks after Sandy struck, Glen Cove sent equipment and employees to Long Beach to assist in cleanup efforts there, officials have said.
