Glenn has a plan to coach and call the defense
The Jets’ first preseason game Friday night against Tampa also will be Aaron Glenn’s first game as both the head coach and defensive play-caller.
Glenn said it’s been all thought out. He has coaches he can lean on -- offensive coordinator Frank Reich, special teams coordinator Chris Banjo and other staff members -- so he can focus on the defense and still be able to manage the game.
“If you're calling it, you can't do everything,” Glenn said. “I want to make sure I'm spot-on with what I'm calling. I want to make sure I'm putting our players in the best position and then make sure that I have the help around me when it comes to game management.
“I never want to be green to any situation that happens, so I continue to stand on top of that,” he added. “I continue to manage the game. When the offense is up, I want to continue to be able to manage the game when it comes to timeouts and all those things. That's my job as a head coach, to make sure of that, but my job is also to surround myself with people that can help me.”
