Hundreds of children ages 3 to 9 raced for jelly-bean-filled treasure at the Oceanside egg hunt Saturday morning at School 6 in Oceanside.

The event was sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Oceanside and the Oceanside School District's Department of Community Activities.

Thousands of colored plastic eggs were grabbed off the grounds of the schoolhouse green. In addition to jelly beans, some had golden tickets, which gave kids a chance to pick out special prizes, such as stuffed toys, said Nancy Baxter, Kiwanis president and Department of Community Activities assistant.

"It really is a great event for the community of Oceanside," she said.
