Let's be clear. The ultimatum by Republican senators demanding that we extend tax cuts for all Americans is class warfare ["Senate eyes deal after tax cuts bill stalls," News, Dec. 5]. They are now paying back their real base - millionaires and billionaires.

Extending the tax cuts to them will ensure millions more in campaign donations for loyal Republicans in the future. It is a strategy to create and ensure jobs for the future - their own.

As is usual in warfare, there is always collateral damage. In this case it will be the deficit, the 9/11 responders, the unemployed, etc. Ironically, a huge percentage of the victims will be among the electorate who voted for them.
