Graffiti-covered bus shelter replaced

The dilapidated, graffiti-covered bus shelter in front of the Sound Beach Post Office is no more.

Thanks to the advocacy efforts of the Sound Beach Civic Association and Brookhaven Councilwoman Jane Bonner, the shelter has been replaced by a new structure, according to Bonner.

The shelter stands on New York Avenue and serves riders of Suffolk County Transit.

“In this economy, as more of our residents have the need to use public transportation, having such a nice facility/amenity as this is a real plus for the community,” Bonner said in a statement.

The new shelter was built by Brookhaven’s Housing and Human Services Department and will be maintained by Signal Outdoor Advertising LLC, which has a contract with the town for bus shelter maintenance.
