The Village of Great Neck will allow residents who have minor storm damage from Sandy and last week’s nor’easter to receive building permits at a discounted rate.
Under the plan, which continues until Jan. 31, 2013, homeowners can receive a temporary building permit by filing a form and sending photographs of the damage to the village. Building permit fees will be waived.
For those with structural damage or in need of more extensive repairs, the village will charge half of the normal building permit fee.
Building permit applications related to Sandy or the nor’easter will be considered high priority in the village.
Mayor Ralph Kreitzman said the village instituted the same policy after a microburst two years ago caused extensive damage to homes.
“It’s painful enough to have damage to your home,” Kreitzman said. “We want to make it a little easier.”
