THE BUDGET

The district is proposing a $189,547,240 budget for the 2010-11 school year, an increase of 2.16 percent over the current year's $185,543,564 budget.

The tax levy would rise 2.89 percent to $178,676,226 from the current $173,651,883.

The district said the average single-family house school tax calculation had not been received by the district. The current year's average is $9,553.74.

The budget proposal includes a 2.44 percent teacher contract raise, plus a 1.9 percent average step increase.

The proposed budget includes reductions in Before-School Enrichment and Academic Enrichment programs. Elementary and secondary intramural activities also are being reduced, as are technology capital projects, the district said.

On the staffing level, the proposed budget includes a reduction of hourly teachers, teacher assistants, paraprofessional monitors and coaches.

School district administrators have initiated a wage freeze for 2010-11, and user fees for K-12 summer programs and adult programs have been increased.

This year's ballot includes a referendum on a library tax proposition of $8,044,000.
