If you want to design an affordable and sustainable green house, you better get going.

United Way of Long Island issued a reminder earlier this week that the deadline for its first annual Attainable Green Home Competition - a joint effort with the Long Island chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council, Babylon town and LIPA - is approaching. Registration for the competition closes May 20, and designs must be submitted by June 3.

The competition is open to both professionals and students, said United Way marketing vice president Julie Robinson-Tingue. The home is eventually to be built on an empty lot in Wyandanch by United Way's Youthbuild program. A professional winner will receive $10,000; a student winner will get a scholarship.

For design requirements and other information, visit attainableli.com or call Babylon town at 631-957-3000.
