Colton Hood had a teaching moment in practice this week. The rookie cornerback was called for pass interference on one play and John Harbaugh appeared to chew him out before the two embraced.

Harbaugh made clear that being too physical and redirecting a receiver is going to be a flag every time. But it’s a lesson Hood learned with love and Harbaugh respected his competitive nature.

“He wants to win every snap,” Harbaugh said. “And I think it's part of the journey for the young corners all around the league. Every single rookie corner in the league is making this journey in terms of what is allowable.”

Hood is continuing to shuffle first-team reps with Paulson Adebo, Greg Newsome and Deonte Banks. But to stay on the field, players have to avoid penalties.

Hood drew an illegal contact penalty last Saturday against the Vikings but it was declined. So Harbaugh staying on Hood's case is a sign of trust in his development.

As long as he doesn’t repeat those mistakes often.

“Here's a young corner that's going to be playing a lot of football,” Harbaugh said. “So, you've got to accelerate the pace with that process. So, he's in that process right now.”
