North Hempstead residents can dispose of hazardous waste during a Stop Throwing Out Pollutants — S.T.O.P. — event scheduled for Nov. 3 in Port Washington.

The event, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., will take place at North Hempstead Beach Park, 175 West Shore Rd., in the North Lot.

Items residents can surrender include aerosols, pesticides, fertilizers, bulbs, lithium batteries, television sets, and computers. Only oil-based paints will be accepted.

Residents can also shred and dispose of personal documents and credit cards, free of charge, at the event.

The town is partnering with Big Brothers Big Sisters, a youth mentoring organization that will accept gently used and working clothes, stuffed animals, electronics, bikes, toys, and luggage, among other items. Residents can receive a receipt for the donations, for income tax purposes.
